The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 around 5:30 p.m., said Trumbull Police Capt. Keith Golding.
Trumbull officers were patrolling the mall when they saw a fight break out between several teenaged males in the Target department store, Golding said.
The officers were able to break up the melee and apprehend two of the suspects as they attempted to flee.
The victim of the attack told the officers that the group of five or six males approached him as he walked into Target and asked him if he was talking about someone they knew, Golding said.
The victim did not know what they were talking about and responded “no.”
The group then jumped the victim, punching him several times. As he was being assaulted, one of the males stole money from his pants pocket, Golding added.
The victim received minor injuries during the incident.
The male who had stolen the money was one of the teens stopped by the officers. The money was recovered and returned to the victim.
Officers searched the mall for the other teens, but they could not be located, police said.
One 14-year-old was charged with robbery, assault, larceny, and breach of peace.
A second teen, a 15-year old, was charged with assault and breach of peace.
Both are from Bridgeport and were released to their parents. They are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.
